Higher than normal water bill?

Water Leaks

  1. What are some common signs of water leaks?
    • Low pressure
    • Mold or mildew.
    • Water strains on the ceilings or walls.
    • High water bills
    • Musty smell.
  2.  How do I check for a leak?
    • Start by doing visual checks such as looking for water stains, listening for running water, checking the yard for damp spots, checking your toilet(s), and checking your appliances for leaky hoses etc.
    • Monitoring your water bill - compare this months' bill with last months' bill, check the water meter to see if it's spinning when you shut your water off, and again, check your toilets!
    • Inspect the common leak areas such under and around the sink, toilets, water heater, and applicances. 
    • If you suspect you have a leak but cannot find it, call a plumber!
  3. How do I prevent these leaks from happening?
    • Inspect your plumbing regularly
    • Insulate the pipes
    • Maintain applicances by doing routine checks for leaky hoses, etc.

Where is the City Hall located?

Our address is 22 S. Cedar, Nokomis, IL 62075.

What are the operating hours of City Hall?

We are open Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., except on legal holidays.

We will be closed on the following holidays:

  • New Year's Day
  • Presidents' Day - February 17.
  • Memorial Day
  • Juneteenth
  • Independence Day or 4th of July.
  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Day after Thanksgiving - November 28.
  • Christmas Day

What forms of payment are accepted by the City Hall?

We accept credit and debit cards, including tap-to-pay options, as well as cash, checks, and money orders.

Water Utilities

How could I have used this much water?

Several factors may contribute to an increased water bill:

  • Inspect your toilets for leaks, as even a minor one can waste up to 200 gallons of water per day.
  • Check the crawlspace or basement for a broken water pipe. 

When is the due date for water bills?

Water bills are due on the 15th of each month.

As a new resident, how do I transfer the water service into my name?

Please visit the City Hall with a photo ID. If you do not have a photo ID, bring your social security card. A $150 deposit is required to initiate water service in your name.
